Pre-Production: "We need a montage"
As the camera and production crew prepare for our shoot in the Niger Delta, things in the country are heating up. Several news agencies carried stories just today of groups in the Delta threatening big oil with another round of kidnapping and explosions.
The film crew has been doing extensive research, preparing gear, holding endless production meetings and generally fretting about a million details.
Since Nigeria is essentially on the equator, and at about 90 percent humidity most of the time, the crew has been training at Cappy's Boxing studio. The medicine ball, heavy bags and boxing gloves are small preparations for jumping on and off of boats with 30-50 lbs of gear.
On a more serious note, the team is preparing for time with the people in the region, communicating regularly with our volunteer Joel Bisina. We are also holding safety training, first aid training and creative meetings.
Once we are in country, we will send updates as often as we have internet access from Warri, the port town outside of the creeks Riverine area where we will spend the majority of the time. Our departure on August 5th is looming and our responsibilities are escalating. We look forward to writing to you from Nigeria.
